Frequently asked questions
What is ceremonial matcha?
Matcha made from the youngest leaves of the first harvest, meant to be drunk pure. You recognise it by its bright green colour, soft umami and lack of bitterness. Culinary matcha comes from later harvests and is meant for baking or mixing.
How do I make matcha?
Sift 1.5 grams into a cup, add 40 to 60 ml of water at 70 to 80 °C and whisk with a bamboo whisk until lightly frothy. Top up with water for pure matcha, or with milk for a creamy latte. Never use boiling water: it makes any matcha bitter.
Which size suits me?
30 g is ideal for discovering, 50 g is our most popular size and 100 g gives the lowest price per gram if you drink matcha every day.
How many cups do I get from a pouch?
At 1.5 grams per cup, about 20 from 30 g, 33 from 50 g and 66 from 100 g.
