The ritual

How it works

A cup, a sieve and a bamboo whisk. Two minutes, every day.

Step 1

Measure & Sift

Measure 1.5 g of Unmatched Matcha into your cup and sift it to prevent lumps.

Step 2

Blend

Add 40 to 60 ml of water at 70 to 80 °C. This keeps the taste soft and balanced.

Step 3

Whisk to Perfection

Whisk with a bamboo whisk until smooth, silky and lightly frothy.

Step 4

Choose your Ritual

Add more water for pure, traditional matcha, or milk for a creamy latte.

The colour

You can see quality in the colour.

First-harvest matcha is bright jade green and smells fresh and sweet. Dull green or yellowish powder usually comes from a later harvest. You can taste it: less sweet, more bitter.

Our story

Worth the ritual.

“Abroad we drank bright green matcha, full and soft, without bitterness. In the Netherlands we couldn't find that quality. So we went looking for it ourselves.”

For a year and a half we searched and tasted. Then we tested our matcha for nine months with real guests before it went on sale. If a batch doesn't meet our standards, it doesn't get the Unmatched name.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is ceremonial matcha?

Matcha made from the youngest leaves of the first harvest, meant to be drunk pure. You recognise it by its bright green colour, soft umami and lack of bitterness. Culinary matcha comes from later harvests and is meant for baking or mixing.

Where does your matcha come from?

From Kagoshima, in the south of Japan. First harvest, shade-grown and traditionally stone-ground. We select every batch on taste, colour and consistency.

Is your matcha organic?

Yes, our matcha is certified organic under EU regulations.

How do I make matcha?

Sift 1.5 grams into a cup, add 40 to 60 ml of water at 70 to 80 °C and whisk with a bamboo whisk until lightly frothy. Top up with water for pure matcha, or with milk for a creamy latte. Never use boiling water: it makes any matcha bitter.

Which size suits me?

30 g is ideal for discovering, 50 g is our most popular size and 100 g gives the lowest price per gram if you drink matcha every day.

How many cups do I get from a pouch?

At 1.5 grams per cup, about 20 from 30 g, 33 from 50 g and 66 from 100 g.

Is there caffeine in matcha?

Yes, matcha naturally contains caffeine and L-theanine.

How does the subscription work?

You receive your matcha every month, with 15% off every delivery and no shipping costs. You can pause or cancel yourself via your account.

What does shipping cost and how fast is it?

Netherlands and Belgium: always free. Rest of the EU and the United Kingdom €4.95, free from €50. Other countries €9.95, free from €100. Ordered before 15:00 on a working day ships the same day, with PostNL track & trace.

How do I store matcha?

Matcha doesn't like light, air or heat. Seal the pouch well after use and store it cool and dark.

Can I withdraw my order?

Yes, you have a 14-day cooling-off period after receipt. Unopened products can be returned using our withdrawal form. Pouch already open and you don't like the matcha? Then our taste guarantee applies: let us know within 30 days and you get your money back.

Do you also supply cafés and shops?

Yes. We supply in 100 gram bags, from 500 grams per order, with volume pricing for larger orders. Request the price list via Wholesale.
